LEARNING MAKATON AT BELLWOOD
February 09 2020
Makaton is a language programme that uses symbols, signs and speech to enable people to communicate. It supports the development of essential skills attention, listening, memory and expression. Using Makaton takes away the frustrations and anxieties of the challenges for individuals who are unable or have difficulty with speech. At Bellwood all children are being introduced to Makaton. We will have a new song and new signs to learn every month. We would like to invite you all to practice these signs at home
FOREST KINDERGARTEN THURSDAY CLASS
January 08 2020
Children from Bellwood attended an 8-week block session of Forest Kindergarten on a Thursday where they spent time in an outdoor environment using natural materials to create and problem solve with. The group took part in a range of experiences such as mud slides, using their imagination to create their own pictures using sticks, leaves and ribbon. We also went on adventure walks where they met two dogs called ‘Bumble’ and ‘Kenzo’. The children thoroughly enjoyed meeting the dogs and were excited to come back to nursery to tell their friends all about them. We also saw squirrels and blue and yellow birds (‘budgies’). As a group the children spent their time jumping in puddles and looking for Christmas elves in the trees they also worked as a team and spent time building their confidence climbing trees and getting really muddy. A big Thank You to our parent helpers that came along and we hope that you enjoyed the experience as much as the staff and children did.
